TPE vs Silicone: Material Deep Dive

Every doll we sell is made of TPE, silicone, or a hybrid of both. This page explains the materials themselves — chemistry aside, here is what you will actually notice as an owner.

Feel and Realism

TPE is soft and elastic with a warm, skin-like give when squeezed. Silicone is firmer but captures microscopic surface detail — pores, fine texture, realistic makeup that never fades. Up close, silicone looks more real; in the hand, TPE feels softer.

Durability

Silicone resists tearing, heat and stains better than TPE and typically outlives it by years. TPE is tough but can tear at stress points if the doll is posed roughly; small tears are repairable with TPE glue.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Silicone is non-porous: wash with mild soap and water and you are done. TPE is slightly porous, so it needs more careful cleaning and regular powdering to keep the surface smooth and non-sticky. Neither is difficult — TPE simply asks for five extra minutes.

Staining

This is the big practical difference. TPE absorbs dyes from dark or new clothing — a black dress left on for a week can leave a permanent mark. Silicone resists staining almost entirely. Either way, pre-wash dark garments and avoid leaving them on for days.

Price and Weight

TPE bodies cost meaningfully less, which is why entry-level dolls are TPE. Silicone commands a premium. Weights are similar for the same body size; silicone heads are slightly heavier.

The Hybrid Option

A silicone head on a TPE body pairs the most realistic face with the softest body at a mid-range price. For many buyers this is the ideal balance.

Bottom Line

Choose TPE for softness and value, silicone for detail and durability, hybrid for the middle path. There is no wrong answer — only the right fit for your priorities.
